Northwestern film professor Nick Davis has put together a superb lecture series, giving a thorough yet accessible look at subjects from Romanian film to Cannes festival winners to the values of costume and set design in filmmaking. In this latest lecture at the Alliance Francaise, he'll be looking at depictions of Asian American romance in film. He'll be focusing on "The Wedding Banquet" a film directed in 1993 by master director Ang Lee and remade this year by Andrew Ahn, a remarkable filmmaker in his own right. Davis will give plenty of examples of each's other work, plus other examples of the genre such as Alice Wu's "Saving Face".
Afterwards we'll head to the nearby Centennial pub at 733 N. LaSalle to talk about the movies and Davis' thoughts on them. It's recommended to register for the FREE event by registering for it via this link: https://www.goelevent.com/ChiFilmFest/e/DiggingDeeper2025TheWeddingBanquet
