What we’re about
This is a group to get together for a meal, see a movie, and meet new people. We were called "Innaloo Cinema and Varsity Burger" but we've branched out!
We meet for chat before the movie, usually going for somewhere within walking distance with casual dining available. The cinemas we go to are a bit of a mix, but more often closer to the city than further out.
All ages are welcome and feel free to bring a friend, although they will have the best experience if they sign up for a free Meetup account.
We cover all genres - blockbuster action, horror, animated, indie, and foreign festival films. New and old. So if you don't see anything that catches your fancy right away just stay tuned. To get notified about new events you can join the group, then enable "new event announcements" and "event reminders" here. Recently the new owners of the Meetup platform have been pushing the paid "Meetup+" membership, but you can just ignore these requests and continue to sign up as a free user to access the group.
There's also a tentative list of upcoming events here. I go to see hundreds of films every year, and I know I'm not the only one, so drop a post in the group if you want to know if anyone else is interested in seeing a particular film. And feel free to message me with requests for events, questions, suggestions, or if you're just not sure if the group is for you (but it is!)

BFF25: Hamnet at Luna Windsor
Windsor Cinema, 98 Stirling Hwy, Nedlands, Perth, AUPlease join me for Oscar winner Chloe Zhao's (Nomadland - Best Picture, The Rider) adaptation of Maggie O'Farrell's best selling fictionalized retelling of the marriage of William Shakespeare and Anne Hathaway, and the heartbreaking event that is postulated to have inspired his later tragedies.
We'll meet in the lobby at 12:15pm for the film at 1:00pm. Your ticket includes a whisky cocktail or mocktail. I recommend buying your ticket online early as other sessions have sold out.
1580 England. Impoverished Latin tutor William Shakespeare (Paul Mescal) meets free-spirited Agnes (Jessie Buckley), and the pair, captivated by one another, strike up a torrid affair that leads to marriage and three children. Yet as Will pursues a budding theater career in far-away London, Agnes anchors the domestic sphere alone. When tragedy strikes, the couple’s once-unshakable bond is tested, but their shared experience sets the stage for the creation of Shakespeare’s timeless masterpiece, Hamlet.
Having premiered at Telluride before winning the People’s Choice Award at the Toronto International Film Festival, Hamnet immerses us in the fragile joys and shattering sorrows of family life in 16th-century Stratford.
Trailer.
"Zhao has found a way for the already talented Buckley and Mescal to pull their performances from the utter depths of their bones. The emotional release by these two actors is often arresting and akin to a dramatic faucet being unleashed on a wildfire." -- Gregory Ellwood, The Playlist.
"Hamnet is a towering work from Zhao and one of the best movies of 2025. It's an emotionally devastating but ultimately cathartic look at how art can bring us together, unite us in unexpected ways, and heal us in ways we might have once thought impossible." -- Ross Bonaime, Collider.
Anyone and everyone are welcome - so don't be shy if you haven't met any of us before. We all came to Meetup to meet new people! And if you've got any questions please leave a comment or feel free to shoot me a message. Please also remember to keep your RSVP up to date.

The Majestic (35mm print) at Como
The Revival House, 16 Preston St, Como WA 6152, Como, AUEscape the pre-Christmas bustle at Perth's only celluloid "revival house" cinema (a cinema that specialises in showing classic films) for one of the last Hollywood films made without cynicism, before 9/11 ruined cinema forever.
We'll meet in the lobby from 7:00pm, and we'll head in to grab seats around 7:30pm for the film at 7:45pm. After the film you're invited to come upstairs to check out the projection room. Tickets are available online or at the cinema.
Frank Darabont follows up The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile with this earnest 2001 love letter to classic Hollywood, small-town America, and the power of movies to bring communities together. Jim Carrey trades comedy for sincerity in a Capra-esque tale about identity, McCarthyism, and finding yourself by losing yourself.
Rising Hollywood screenwriter Peter Appleton (Jim Carrey) is blacklisted in the early 1950s Red Scare. Following a drunken car accident, he wakes with amnesia near the small town of Lawson, Calif., where the residents mistake him for Luke Trimble, a local boy declared missing in action during World War II. As Peter helps Luke's father (Martin Landau) and high school sweetheart (Laurie Holden) reopen the town's sole movie theater, questions arise about his true identity and motivations.
Trailer.
"A heartfelt and surprisingly successful revival of the cinema-idyllic world of Frank Capra movies." -- Rob Blackwelder, SplicedWire.
"Carrey's natural charisma carries the movie with just the right dose of Jimmy Stewart charm." -- William Arnold, Seattle Post-Intelligencer.
"Darabont makes us care about the characters and their dilemmas; he's made this old-fashioned tale vital and engaging." -- Eric Harrison, Houston Chronicle.
At The Revival House all films are screened on 35mm or 16mm film prints. Their home is the Art Deco, heritage listed Como Theatre built in 1938. It's a great cinema that's attracted a passionate community of film lovers.
