What we’re about
This is a group to get together for a meal, see a movie, and meet new people. We were called "Innaloo Cinema and Varsity Burger" but we've branched out!
We usually meet for chat before the movie, going for somewhere within walking distance with casual dining available. The cinemas we go to are a bit of a mix, but more often closer to the city than further out.
All ages are welcome and feel free to bring a friend, although they will have the best experience if they sign up for a free Meetup account.
We cover all genres - blockbuster action, horror, animated, indie, and foreign festival films. New and old. So if you don't see anything that catches your fancy right away just stay tuned. (If you go to your Profile, then "Email Updates" and "Updates about your groups" you can make sure you'll get an email a week or two out from new events.)
There's a tentative list of upcoming events here. These will generally only get put on Meetup once session times are published. I personally go to see hundreds of films every year, and I know I'm not the only one, so drop a post in the group if you want to know if anyone else is interested in seeing a particular film.
And feel free to message me with requests for events, suggestions, or questions if you're just not sure if the group is for you (but it is!)

See all- Dinner + Dangerous Animals at Event Innaloo (Half price session)Event Innaloo, Innaloo
Book your ticket for the 7.00pm session here. Meet us in Varsity (next door) for a chat any time from 6:00pm, and we'll head into the cinema at 7:00pm. Seating is allocated so there's no rush if you're running late, and we usually hang around for a chat after the film too.
It's a half price preview session so regular seats are $13.50 (or $15.20 online) if you sign up for their free "Cinebuzz" membership. Or there are recliners down the front ($16.50 or $18.20 online). My seat is F11.
This is the latest film from Australian filmmaker Sean Byrne (The Loved Ones) and shot in Queensland. It's the first Australian film to be selected for the Quinzaine des cinéastes/Director's Fortnight at Cannes since These Final Hours in 2014.
When Zephyr (Hassie Harrison), a rebellious surfer, is abducted by a shark-obsessed serial killer (Jai Courtney) and held captive on his boat, she must figure out how to escape before he carries out a ritualistic feeding to the sharks below.
"It’s an efficient, clever genre mash-up that works because of how well Byrne blocks its action, employs an old-fashioned score, and directs his actors to visceral performances." -- Brian Tallerico, RogerEbert .com.
"It takes a steady hand to pull off a horror film as outlandish as Dangerous Animals, but Byrne has pulled off something slick and confident here. It’ll keep horror fans out of the water for years." -- Philip De Semlyen, Time Out.
Anyone and everyone are welcome - so don't be shy if you haven't met any of us before. We all came to Meetup to meet new people! And if you've got any questions please leave a comment or feel free to shoot me a message. Please also remember to keep your RSVP up to date.
