What we’re about
This is a group to get together for a meal, see a movie, and meet new people. We were called "Innaloo Cinema and Varsity Burger" but we've branched out!
We meet for chat before the movie, usually going for somewhere within walking distance with casual dining available. The cinemas we go to are a bit of a mix, but more often closer to the city than further out.
All ages are welcome and feel free to bring a friend, although they will have the best experience if they sign up for a free Meetup account.
We cover all genres - blockbuster action, horror, animated, indie, and foreign festival films. New and old. So if you don't see anything that catches your fancy right away just stay tuned. To get notified about new events you can join the group, then enable "new event announcements" and "event reminders" here. Recently the new owners of the Meetup platform have been pushing the paid "Meetup+" membership, but you can just ignore these requests and continue to sign up as a free user to access the group.
There's also a tentative list of upcoming events here. I go to see hundreds of films every year, and I know I'm not the only one, so drop a post in the group if you want to know if anyone else is interested in seeing a particular film. And feel free to message me with requests for events, questions, suggestions, or if you're just not sure if the group is for you (but it is!)

See all- Dinner + Caught Stealing at Event Innaloo (half price session)Event Innaloo, Innaloo
Book your ticket for the 7.00pm session here. Meet us in Varsity (next door) for a chat/meal any time from 6:00pm, and we'll head into the cinema at 7:00pm. Seating is allocated so if you buy your ticket early there's no rush, and we usually hang around for a chat after the film too. Note - the Event website might try to upsell you to Gold Class sessions in a different cinema but ignore that and just scroll down to where you select your seat.
It's a half price 4K session so regular seats are $13.50 (or $15.20 online) if you sign up for their free "Cinebuzz" membership. Or there are recliners down the front ($16.50 or $18.20 online). My seat is C9.
The latest film from Darren Aronofsky (The Whale, Black Swan, The Wrestler, Requiem for a Dream). Hank Thompson (Austin Butler) was a high-school baseball phenom who can't play anymore, but everything else is going okay. He's got a great girl (Zoë Kravitz), tends bar at a New York dive, and his favorite team is making an underdog run at the pennant. When his punk-rock neighbor Russ (Matt Smith) asks him to take care of his cat for a few days, Hank suddenly finds himself caught in the middle of a motley crew of threatening gangsters. They all want a piece of him; the problem is he has no idea why. As Hank attempts to evade their ever-tightening grip, he's got to use all his hustle to stay alive long enough to find out....
"Major shades of Guy Ritchie and Martin McDonagh, ‘Caught Stealing’ unabashedly wears its influences on its sleeve. Charlie Huston’s brilliantly written screenplay coupled with Darren Arnofsky’s darker directing style make for the perfect blend of an unsettling atmosphere, unpredictability, and dark & uncompromising comedy." -- K G, Letterboxd user.
"Caught Stealing is a love letter to New York City and a time capsule of 90s culture. Great visuals and match cuts drive a story of lost potential, passionate attraction, and barbaric violence." -- Caleb Burnett, Letterboxd user.
Anyone and everyone are welcome - so don't be shy if you haven't met any of us before. We all came to Meetup to meet new people! And if you've got any questions please leave a comment or feel free to shoot me a message. Please also remember to keep your RSVP up to date.

Life seems easy for picture-perfect couple Ivy (Olivia Colman) and Theo (Benedict Cumberbatch): successful careers, a loving marriage, great kids. But beneath the façade of their supposed ideal life, a storm is brewing -- as Theo's career nosedives while Ivy's own ambitions take off, a tinderbox of fierce competition and hidden resentment ignites. The Roses is Jay Roach's (Meet the Parents, Austin Powers) reimagining of the 1989 classic film The War of the Roses, based on the novel by Warren Adler.
"The laughs are consistent enough and the mood appropriately mean-spirited that those wanting a little sinisterness with their sniggers should enjoy the marital anything-but-bliss of The Roses." -- Peter Gray, The AU Review.
"Deliciously destructive and delightfully dry — The Roses is bound to be a blast for many who crave seeing two actors at the top of their game playing game." -- Nadine Whitney, This Is Film.
