LITTLE MIAMI RIVER PADDLE + LUNCH
Kelly Nature Preserve → Bass Island Access (approx. 10 miles)
We’ll paddle from Kelly Nature Preserve down to Bass Island Access, enjoy a late lunch at The Miamiville Trailyard. Bring kayaks and a smile.
THE PLAN
Meet at Kelly Nature Preserve at 9:00 AM. Please arrive a few minutes early and have boats unloaded and ready to shuttle by 9:15 AM.
If you are running late, please call. I will provide my cell number closer to the event date.
• Start
We will attempt to push off from the shoreline no later than 10:00 AM.
(this shuttle takes some time)
• Finish
We should be off the water around 3:30 PM, give or take.
• Duration
Expect 4–5 hours on the water.
• Difficulty
This paddle is suitable for paddlers with moving‑water experience. You must be 18 or older and sign the liability waiver. It’s not a hard paddle, but there are obstacles to maneuver.
• What You See
Birds, wildflowers, wildlife and me!
• Restrooms
Port‑a‑potties… or not. Be prepared for back‑country bathroom options and leave no trace.
• Food
This will be a late lunch, so please bring snacks or a small meal for the river. We will stop along the way for a break.
After the paddle, we will head to The Miamiville Trailyard for lunch.
• Equipment
Any kayak will work.
• Safety Requirements
Life jackets (PFDs) are to be worn at all times for this paddle. No exceptions.
If you use a spray skirt, a helmet is also required on the water.
WHAT TO BRING
• PFD (required)
• Helmet
• Water & snacks (late lunch!)
• Sunscreen & bug spray
• Hat
• Dry clothes & dry shoes
• Dry bag
• Towel (for the shuttle—throw it on the seat of your shuttle driver’s car)
• Safety gear
• Smile
PARKING & SHUTTLE
Parking is limited at both the put‑in and take‑out.
Carpooling is strongly recommended.
Note: A valid Motor Vehicle Permit (MVP) was required for vehicle entry at Great Parks’ parks and conservation areas across Hamilton County. Our takeout is at a location that required a permit at one time. I believe this is no longer the case. If someone knows, please post in the chat below and we will update. I think you can get a one-day permit nearby at the golf course.
