Kayak Dayton - Great Miami River "Weekday Paddle Series" Miamisburg to Franklin

  • Jun 17, 2014 · 6:30 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Enjoy short and leisurely after work paddle on the Great Miami River. At only 3.7 miles, its a good way to get back on the water close to home and stretch your arms.  This is a fun section that I am sure you will enjoy.

We will paddle 3.7 miles from the low side of the Hutchings dam [GM 63.4] to a new take out area just south of Franklin [GM 59.7] on The Great Miami River. There is not a livery for boat rental or a shuttle. You will need to own your own boat and be willing to shuttle with other kayakers on this Meet Up.  If you do not have a boat, rental information is included below.

We will meet at 6:30 PM at the launch area and agree on shuttle logistics.  We will prepare boats for launch and a group will stage vehicles for shuttle at the take out location. If you are running late, please call. I will provide my cell number once RSVP's close.  The latest you may arrive is 6:55 PM to ensure the group is on the water at 7:15PM.

• Start
We plan to push of from the shoreline at 7:15 PM (launch time)

• Finish
We should be out of the water 8:30 PM + or -

• Duration
Expect to spend about 1 hours on the water

• Pace
We will take a leisurely paddle giving plenty of time for camera opportunities

• Distance
This paddle is a very short 3.7 miles

• Difficulty
This paddle is suitable for paddlers with some moving water experience.  You must be 18 years of age or older and sign the liability waiver.  Its not a hard paddle, however there are obstacles to maneuver.

• What You See
Hutching Station Power Plant, Miamisburg Chautauqua Association Park, Chautauqua Rapids, Downtown Franklin, Wildlife.

• Restrooms
There are no restrooms available

• Food
Bring water and snacks.  We will have dinner after the paddle at TJ Chumps.

A boat that tracks well would be ideal, but not necessary.  Mostly a flat water paddle with an occasional rapid.  A recreational boat will do well.

• What to Bring
PFD / hat / water / sunscreen / bug spray / dry clothes / dry shoes / dry bag / safety equipment. Water temperatures will be cool.  Be prepared. Bring a towel as to respect the vehicle owner in which you share a shuttle.

PLEASE NOTE: This is the first time I have attempted to paddle this waterway this year.  I am not your guide.  I am a friend to paddle with that has provided you with group companionship and shuttling opportunity.

• Take State route 725 exit

• West on ST RT 725 towards Miamisburg (Miamisburg-Centerville Road)

• Turn left onto Byers Rd

• Turn right onto Benner Rd

• Turn left onto Miamisburg Springboro Pike

• Take the 1st right onto Shephard Rd

• Shephard Rd dead ends into Dayton-Cincinnati Pike.  The boat ramp is across the street.

As always it was fun. Even my fall in the river. You know, you can't go home from a river trip dry. It is not

I changed the description to more clearly explain the expectation. Sorry for the confusion. I had copied this event from an earlier time and did not correctly update the sequence timing.

What time are we meeting? The event says 7 pm but the description says 6 pm.
