MPV's Progressive Islam Curriculum Workshop - Anti-Racism in Islam
Muslims for Progressive Values is excited to bring to our community the Progressive Islam Curriculum Live Workshop with Kendra Cordova, educator, MPV Board Member, and the brilliant mind behind our Youtube Series, MPV with Kendra.
The 14th workshop in this online series will cover Lessons 1, 2, and 3 of Unit 8 of the Progressive Islam Curriculum, "Anti-Racism and Islam", applying hermeneutics to understand the presence of anti-racism in the Qur’an and Hadith. We begin by defining key terms around race, racism, and anti-racism before examining the texts of both the Qur’an and Hadith to understand how race was described in the early days of Islam. Together, we'll review a number of Quranic verses and Hadith, which demonstrate how diversity is a sign of God’s divine intentions and the significance of taqwa, or piety, as the ultimate equalizer and the sole distinguisher between humans on earth.
