NYC SharePoint Developers User Group is Tomorrow

From: Kathryn B.
Sent on: Tuesday, October 19, 2010 2:30 PM

The next NYC SharePoint Developers User Group is tomorrow, Wednesday, October 20th! So REGISTER NOW if you haven't already! Remember that the security desk will have to call Microsoft and have them put you in the computer if you're not registered, meaning that it could take you as much as 20 minutes to get upstairs. I'm going to be sending the list to Microsoft at about 4:00 on Wednesday so that you can now register at the last minute and still be on the list.

SUBJECT: Word Automation Services in SharePoint 2010

SPEAKER: Ken Cooper, Enterprise SharePoint Architect

Microsoft has finally done it! They have baked office automation services into a web server application. Word Automation Services is a functionality in SharePoint 2010 that allows developers to transform Word documents into other document types. So what does this do for me? Well, have you ever wanted to turn a bunch of Word documents into PDFs and save them in bulk on your SharePoint server so that users can't edit them? Now you can! What about mail merging a template and data into a set of PDF files (one per mail merge)? Now you can! If you want to bone up a bit on this exciting new technology before the meeting check out this link: "Word Automation Services: What it Does".

Kenneth Cooper has 16 years of experience in software development and is currently an Enterprise SharePoint Architect at a large Real Estate firm here in NYC rolling SharePoint out globally to the organization. For the last five he has been working with SharePoint 2003, 2007, and now 2010, in various roles, incluing developer, administrator, solution architect and SharePoint enterprise architect. He has implemented various solutions using SharePoint ranging from working with the OM to integrating third party systems. He has also worked with other document management and portal applications.

WHEN: Wednesday, October 20th, 2010 at 5:30 PM

WHERE: Microsoft Office NYC - 6th Floor
1290 Avenue of the Americas, 6th Floor
(between 51st and 52nd Streets on the East side of the street)

As always, sandwiches, salads and sodas will be provided by our founding sponsor GIG WERKS.

And once again, we'll be raffling off a copy of the Telerik Ultimate Collection toolset, a $1999 value, to one lucky winner!

Even though we don't have an After-Meeting Social sponsor for this meeting (alas, no free drinks), we'll be walking across the street to McCormick and Schmick's after the meeting. Don't miss this opportunity to network and share with your SharePoint colleagues.

Finally, don't forget to bring ID for the security desk downstairs.

See you on Wednesday,

Kathryn Birstein
