Description:

What started as Azure SQL Data Warehouse, has now evolved into an all-encompassing analytics development service. Microsoft took the power of the MPP database engine of SQL DW and added more powerful capabilities, full big data integration as well as an integrated authoring experience.

Whether you are an administrator or a developer, Synapse now provides more tools for either role to build their solution. To enable all these new capabilities, Microsoft has introduced new concepts like SQL and Big Data pools, Azure Data Lake Gen 2 integrated catalogs and more.

In this demo-heavy session we will go over the main concepts behind Synapse as well as demos to showcase the major features and new workspace experience. In the end you will leave with an understanding of the new things you can do with Synapse and how it fits into your organization's data strategy and your role in it.

About the speaker:

Warner Chaves is a SQL Server MCM, Data Platform MVP and Principal Consultant at Pythian. He started his career with a brief stint in .NET programming that led to working for enterprise customers in Hewlett-Packard ITO organization. From there he transitioned to his current position at Pythian, building and managing data solutions for some of the biggest names across many industry verticals. Warner is a frequent speaker at SQLSaturday events around the world and at the PASS Summit, the largest conference dedicated to the Microsoft Data Platform.
