In an August 2021 comic, XKCD noted that “even when trying to compensate for it, experts in anything wildly overestimated the average person’s familiarity with anything in their field.” In this 30-minute session, Bill Jelen will cover 7-10 basic but important concepts that you might not know about Excel. Possible topics:

• Absolute vs. Relative References $A$1 versus A1.
• Slicers to quickly filter
• Goal Seek to back into an answer
• Flash Fill to Clean Data
• DATEDIF hidden function to calculate the difference between dates
• Number formatting - both in formulas with TEXT and custom number formatting in cells
• Summarize Data using an English sentence

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Bill Jelen is the host of [MrExcel.com](http://mrexcel.com/) on YouTube and the author of 69 books about Microsoft Excel including “Excel Gurus Gone Wild”, “Excel 2019 Inside Out” and “Microsoft Excel Pivot Table Data Crunching Including Dynamic Arrays, Power Query, and Copilot.”

He was an ESPN commentator for the World Excel Championships, has made over 80 guest appearances on TV's Call for Help with Leo Laporte and was voted guest of the year on the Computer America radio show.
He writes the Excel column for Strategic Finance magazine and has produced over 2500 episodes of his video podcast Learn Excel from MrExcel.

Before founding [MrExcel.com](http://mrexcel.com/) in 1998, Jelen spent twelve years “in the trenches”, as a financial analyst for the accounting, finance, marketing, and operations departments of a publicly held company.
For all his contributions to the Excel community, Bill has been awarded Excel MVP for the past 20 years.
