Each of you who signed up for this Meetup group, for a brief moment had hopes of learning something new to overcome challenges and hoped to meet a new friend to share experiences of living with ASD. I hope with our first in-person meeting we can finally meet that goal! I am familiar with peer ASD groups as I have been diagnosed as being on the spectrum and attended events hosted by my best friend who I met at an ASD event.
My vision for this group is to allow personal growth for everyone attending. We can all set goals for ourselves and help each other meet those goals while having fun.
As a graduate of Second City Improv school in Chicago, our first activity will be a game to help each other remember names. Many people do not know that Improv activities were initially invented to help people on the spectrum learn how to navigate social situations before it morphed into a stage comedy activity.
Next I plan on serving lunch of salad and pasta. I hope we can use this time to make plans for the group.
The final part of the afternoon will be to watch a reality TV show dealing with men who have trouble navigating relationships with a relationship expert helping them gain confidence with discussion afterwards.
Event will be at a private residence in Brooklyn Park near Brooklyn Blvd and Zane. Exact address will be provided a day before event for people who RSVP.
