Stone Mountain MST clearing and repair

We are going to try again to re-work the water bars and cut back the forest creep on the MST section from the backpackers campsites to the park's boundary with the Blue Ridge Parkway. If you are a certified chainsaw operators, there are several fallen trees that need removal. Bring a copy of your certification!

We will meet at the backers parking lot (this is about 3 1/2 miles PAST the visitor's center and just past the parking area for Widow's Creek Falls). We will meet there at 9 AM and hike in 1 mile to the site. Cell phone service probably will not be available.

The first 2 miles of trail repair is quite steep.

Bring shovels, hazel hoes, loppers, gloves, snacks/lunch/water and smiles

If you are chainsaw certified (by NC State) we will break you off in a separate unit to remove some of Helene's calling cards. BRING a copy of your certification!

Watch your emails as we will announce a go/no-go on Friday night depending on the weather.
