JAZZ FOR THE SOUL is one of AZ's longest running Jazz series.
MUSIC ON A MISSION at Ravenscroft produces concerts that make a difference.
We feature the finest secular Jazz musicians and singers AZ has to offer and concerts are always free to the public. Jazz For the Soul takes place twice a month, once on the west side and once on the east side.
The second Sunday of the month concerts are featured at
Spirit Of Hope UMC at 14403 N 75th Ave, Peoria, AZ 85381.
On the fourth Sunday, concerts take place in
Jazzbird at Ravenscroft 8445 E Hartford Dr, Scottsdale, AZ 85255.
Start time is always - 6:00-8:00 pm.
Refreshments and snacks can be purchased.
This series is produced and funded by Music Serving The Word Ministries and is intended to offer a fun night out along with outstanding music while supporting charities that benefit our community. A different charity is selected each month and the audience has the opportunity to donate if they choose to do so.
100% of the donations go directly to the featured charity.
These concerts are casual and friendly. If you love jazz and also like to take part in helping those who make our community better, check us out.

Music on a Mission is an outreach of Music Serving The Word Ministries. Vicki McDermitt serves as director with the vision to share God’s love through secular and sacred music, humanitarian aid, and community outreach.

Jazz For The Soul - west - presents: Ted Bouras Jazz Organ trio
Heritage Presbyterian Church, 5830 W Greenbriar Dr., Glendale, AZ, USTed Bouras Jazz Organ Trio PLUS Andrew Gross.
As if this dynamic Jazz Organ trio wasn’t enough, they’ve added sax player extraordinaire Andrew Gross to the mix, creating a unique and exciting blend of talents that takes their groove to the next level. This trio has been described as “Purveyors of deep grooves, soulful sounds, and toe-tappin’ fun.” Come and bring a friend!
About the artists:
Ted Bouras, Drums: Although Ted resides in Prescott, he also works regularly in Phoenix and Tucson. Ted is known for his groove and ability to play across many genres, making him a very busy musician.
Charles Anderson, Guitar: An Arizona native, Charles is a performer and educator. He started his music education on piano at the age of 5, then added violin and Trombone, before receiving his first guitar at 14. Under the instruction of Dr. Jeff Libman and Mike Kocour, Charles completed his undergraduate degree in Jazz Performance and is now pursuing a Master’s Degree in Jazz Studies at Arizona State University. He spends his time teaching and performing at Phoenix’s jazz venues.
Andrew Gross, Saxophone: A local favorite, jazz saxophonist Andy is an educator with a M.M. in performance. You can find him performing with the Phoenix Symphony as well as jazz and contemporary groups around town. He has recorded three projects of his own and is in demand as a studio musician. Andrew is the Music Director for Young Sounds of Arizona, a youth program comprising two big bands and a small combo, dedicated to developing not only excellent musicianship but also the social skills necessary for success.
David Paonessa, Organ: A jazz pianist and educator from Phoenix, David is known for his playful and swinging style, and is firmly rooted in both the blues and bebop traditions. David attended Arizona State University, studying with Nick Manson and Mike Kocour, and graduated with an M.M. in Jazz Studies. David currently teaches at Glendale Community College and performs regularly in the Phoenix area.
Jazz for the Soul, an outreach of Music Serving the Word Ministries, is pleased to contribute 100% of donations from this month's concert to KYRO, an organization dedicated to helping the “Forgotten Daughters” of Rwanda. KYRO empowers young, unwed, and disadvantaged mothers to overcome shame, poverty, and cultural limitations by providing job training and placement opportunities that help them step out of the cycle of poverty. Jazz For The Soul - west - presents: Angelo Versace quartet
Heritage Presbyterian Church, 5830 W Greenbriar Dr., Glendale, AZ, USJazz for the Soul is excited to present the Angelo Versace Quartet! Angelo has been with us multiple times and is a crowd favorite. Tonight, he brings his quartet of AZ all-stars, including *Jason Carder – trumpet, *Dom Moio – drums, and *Scott Black – bass.
Classic jazz at its finest, and will it swing? Absolutely!! Don’t miss this show, and bring your friends.
Angelo Versace has been described as “a fleet-fingered keyboard dynamo.” and “A brilliant jazz talent"
Versace plays around the globe, at world-class festivals and venues alongside internationally recognized performers. He’s performed on 12 albums, two as a leader, and ten as a sideman, ranging from classical to jazz, gospel, and sacred jazz. He is currently working on a recording project with Khristian Dentley of Take 6.
Versace is also a highly respected educator with a doctorate in Musical Arts. He serves as Director of Jazz at the University of Arizona in Tucson. He says, “To me, the bandstand is a sacred place. When the musicians are on that bandstand, they are serious, no matter how informal the setting might be.” His commitment to jazz education is as strong as his passion for performing.
Dom Moio – Phoenix’s first call drummer, is known for his skill as a performer, band leader, and educator. Dom spent thirty years teaching on the Jazz faculty at ASU and has contributed as a sideman to over 100 recording projects. He’s produced several CDs of his own, “I Got Cha Drums Right Here” and “Cinco De Mayo” are fan favorites. Dom’s joy and enthusiasm is infectious when he plays.
Jason Carder – His dynamic personality and nimble talent on the trumpet allow Jason to move fluidly from intimate jazz clubs to international concert stages before audiences of thousands. He’s contributed to over 125 albums, including Grammy award-winning “Hot House”. Jason studied music at the University of Miami and now teaches at the University of Arizona. He holds a M.M. in Studio Music and Jazz Performance.
Scott Black – Scott graduated from Indiana University, moved to New York, and then to Chicago to hone his bass skills in those vibrant jazz scenes. Scott has an extensive background in education and uses his expertise as a soloist and as a part of the rhythm section to help students learn the jazz language. He is the co-owner of the Tucson Jazz Institute. A world-class, award-winning music school dedicated to producing the finest future jazz players.Jazz for the Soul, an outreach of Music Serving the Word Ministries, is pleased to contribute 100% of donations from this concert to Kitchen on the Street, an organization dedicated to ending childhood hunger in Phoenix by providing education and vital weekend meals that support children’s nutrition, growth, and academic success.
