"Fun Meditation" at Vancouver Open Practice
Details
Life is challenging. Come join us for silent meditation, fellowship, and a Dharma teaching and discussion. No experience necessary.
This group is participation oriented, though participation is not mandatory. If you want to come and just observe, that's fine. This "Fun Meditation" is designed for everyone to get to know and support one another. A group of like minded practitioners is called the Sangha. You will find that a Sangha can change your life when you realize we're all struggling, and we're all in this together.
We do use a chant book put together by Mt. Adams Buddhist Temple and you're encouraged to either buy a copy or download the PDF.
So what's fun about meditation? Well, nothing actually. But with enough practice, enough meditation, enough fellowship, life becomes more fun. More rewarding and more peaceful. If you've ever been to a Buddhist service, they can appear very serious. I assure you, you will not get that impression here. Personally, my role model for life is Maude (Harold and Maude), and I'm a huge Monty Python fan. A Buddhist practice doesn't have to be so serious, but it IS important. Life is not easy. At times it can be downright miserable. It IS important to learn how to make life a bit easier to navigate. That is very important. Life is short. Let's enjoy the ride.
It doesn't matter if you have a spiritual faith already. A Buddhist practice is compatible with all faiths or lack thereof. In fact, it could be said there's no such thing as "converting" to Buddhism. You either practice it or you don't. And you don't have to "believe" anything. It either works for you, or it doesn't. But for the most part, if you stick with it, a Buddhist practice does indeed work and can transform your life.
