Our twice monthly MTG Night!

This night is for the very cool 60 card deck builds known as Premodern! This is not our normal commander night. Also heads up we are playing in a new location so double check all the details.

You may be asking what is Premodern?

Premodern is a community-created, non-rotating constructed Magic: The Gathering format featuring cards with the original card frame printed between 1995 and 2003. It spans sets from Fourth Edition to Scourge, offering a nostalgic "middle era" of MTG gameplay that exists between the "Old School" (93/94) and Modern formats.
Key Aspects of Premodern MTG

• Card Pool & Aesthetics: The format includes all black-bordered expansion and core sets from Fourth Edition (1995) to Scourge (2003), typically featuring the old-frame design.
• Philosophy: Created in 2012 by Martin Berlin, the format serves as a home for iconic, older cards that are too low-powered for Legacy but too high-powered or restricted for other formats.
• Rules: Premodern uses current MTG rules, including the London Mulligan, but does not allow "damage on the stack".
• Gameplay: The meta is diverse and often slower than modern, allowing for more decision-making, midrange, and control strategies. Key archetypes include Landstill, The Rock, Goblins, and various combo decks.
• Ban List: The format has a curated, small ban list (e.g., Brainstorm, Force of Will, Land Tax) designed to ensure a balanced, non-solved environment.
• Accessibility & Cost: Generally considered more accessible than Legacy, the community is very open to using gold-bordered collector's edition cards and proxies.
