MarkLogic User Group London: Jen Shorten

Holidays are done, kids are returning to school and it's time to get serious about getting some work done before 2016 is gone. Obviously, this means it's time for another MUGL.

This time around we have a special treat. Our speaker will be my fellow expat American Jen Shorten, who is well known to many members of the MUGL. Jen will give us a rather light-hearted history of how MarkLogic started, some of the twists and turns it's taken, where it is now and where it's headed.

How the Hell Did We Get Here?

MarkLogic isn’t a feisty little start-up anymore. What began as an idea to build a better search engine 15 years ago in California has grown into a global enterprise database platform with so many features that it takes over an hour just to list them all.

In this presentation we’ll take a look at where MarkLogic started and how it has evolved. We’ll look into some of the surprising and interesting use cases where MarkLogic has been used in ways that were never envisioned at the time of the company’s founding in 2001.

For those new to MarkLogic this will be an opportunity to learn about the range of possibilities for current and future projects. For the “old-timers” it will be an opportunity to see just how much has changed since your first MarkLogic project (e.g. probably a scholarly publishing platform).

We are at our usual venue, the Theodore Bullfrog Pub next to Charing Cross, in the upstairs function room (stairs at the back). We have a private bar. Free food and dink will be provided, as per usual.

Aim to arrive around 6:30 for mingling and eating. Jen will start around 7:00 and go for as long as she damned well pleases. After that, more drinks and mingling until they kick us out.
