David Hansel has a diverse and successful background spanning over two decades as a real estate investor that includes acquisition, construction, development, management, capital raising, and lending. He is a founder and managing member of Alpha Funding, a private lending company, and Lucern Capital Partners, a real estate private equity firm and fund business.

David began his real estate career in 2001 as a broker and began investing in value-add residential and commercial projects for his personal portfolio. David parlayed this experience and success by co-founding Alpha Funding in 2007 with Callazzo. Under David’s leadership, the company quickly grew to one of the largest and most respected brands in the private lending space on the East Coast and remains a market leader today. This company has deployed over $800 million in short-term debt to real estate builders, developers, and investors. Here, David and his team architected and implemented a robust, proprietary origination and underwriting system focused on providing strong, risk-adjusted returns for the company and its broad base of high-net-worth, retail, and institutional investors.







In 2016, David co-founded Lucern Capital Partners with Mark Callazzo and Frank Forte. Lucern. He has played a critical role in setting the strategic vision and growth for the firm and oversees all capital management. Additionally, he is an integral part of the company's overall management and the acquisition and underwriting team.







Lucern Capital Partners is a real estate investment firm that targets value-add multifamily including ground-up development, mixed-use assets in addition to opportunistic investment in preferred equity for qualified sponsors. Geographically the firm has focused most of its efforts in the Carolinas and other major metros on the East Coast. The Lucern Capital Partners team has successfully transacted on over $2.5 billion of debt and equity real estate transactions during their careers and as a group transacted on $225mm. They bring that knowledge to accredited investors to provide income-generating investments in institutional-quality multifamily and mixed-use assets through the Lucern Multifamily Value Fund I, L.P., and standalone transactions. This fund is focused on opportunistic real estate assets that are mismanaged or distressed, and that can be improved through a value-add business plan. Our boots-on-the-ground approach and experience investing across different economic cycles position our team to identify investment opportunities with the potential of generating superior risk-adjusted returns for our investors.

David graduated from the University of Delaware with a B.A. in hotel and restaurant management and was the local chapter president of the National Honors Society Eta Sigma Delta. He is actively involved with dozens of industry organizations and regularly speaks and provides education to others in various aspects of the real estate industry.
