Talk:
Audit Logs at Confluent: Harnessing Kafka to Deliver 10 Billion Messages a Day
Abstract:
Audit logs are critical for security, compliance, and operational insights—but managing them at scale can be challenging. At Confluent, we’ve built a robust system that processes over 10 billion messages daily, with Apache Kafka serving as the backbone for our end-to-end pipeline.
In this talk, I’ll share how we use Kafka as the source, store, and destination, incorporating Kafka Streams to filter, redact, and transform audit logs in real-time. You’ll learn about the challenges we faced, the trade-offs made, and the patterns we adopted to scale the system reliably.
Attendees will gain practical insights into building a production-grade system capable of handling audit logs efficiently and at massive scale.
Bio:
Jinit Shah is a Senior Software Engineer at Confluent, where he works with the observability team. A graduate of BITS Pilani (2022), Jinit has contributed to several initiatives around audit logs in Confluent Cloud, focusing on enhancing data pipelines and improving system efficiency. He has also worked on the Schema Registry team, making open-source contributions and optimizing performance. Outside of work, Jinit enjoys playing volleyball and badminton. LinkedIn
