Talk:
Kafka in Action: Solving Application Challenges and Deploying on Kubernetes

Abstract:
As Kubernetes environments grow, traditional application architectures often hit scaling roadblocks like database contention, chatty microservices, unpredictable latency, and cross-cluster communication failures. In this session, we walk through a real-world engineering journey where Apache Kafka was introduced as a service layer to reshape a distributed system running across multiple Kubernetes clusters and clouds.

This talk begins with the original monolithic-leaning application architecture, the traffic patterns that stressed it, and the operational issues created by scaling. We then explore how introducing Kafka as a central event backbone unlocked a more resilient, decoupled, and scalable architecture.

Later when we migrated from one cloud to another, this talk would go through how migrations were carried out over Kubernetes clusters across different cloud providers. How Kafka was migrated with a bit of handholding and how Kafka and Kubernetes were instrumental in the migration of services and data.
