What we’re about
(For German, see below)
This group is about Chinese martial arts and their various ideas and concepts of training. We want to explore what these traditions can offer to the modern world, by building bridges between old-school training mentality and playful, enjoyable takes on functional training and exercise, strength-building, body work and mindfulness, as well as sparring, wrestling and fighting.
I have been training martial arts, mostly Chinese traditions, for many years now. I am focusing on Chen-style Taijiquan Gongfujia, a variation of the original form of Taijiquan, stemming from the small village Chenjiagou in Henan province, China. This school of martial arts produced many highly skilled martial artists, while also spawning the many simplified exercise versions often transcribes as “Taichi”. I am practicing and teaching this style of Taijiquan here in Munich, and I want to use this meetup group to explore the many interesting facets of its training method.
I will offer half-day weekend workshops on various topics, mostly focusing on introductory concepts and exercises that allow us to dip our toes in training elements of traditional Chinese martial arts. The topics will range from basic ideas of bodywork through functional training to playfighting and self-defense. The workshops will be free and require no prior training or know-how. They will not focus on physical rehabilitation though, so if you have prior injuries or physical inhibitions, please let me know in advance.
Of course anyone who is interested can also join my regularly taught evening classes in Munich. For more info on that, check out www.chen-taiji-muc.de
The website is in German and English.
