Free concert: first round of ARD Competition for Cellists

Now that the Olympics are over, let's explore one way how musicians compete against each and launch their careers on an international stage! The ARD Competition ranks amongst the most prestigious musical competitions. Previous laureates include pianists Mitsuko Uchida and Alexandre Tharaud, cellist Sol Gabetta, sopranist Jessye Norman, violinist Christian Tetzlaff, and conductor Yuri Bashmet. Interestingly, some of those laureates who achieved immense success as soloists came in third place instead of first, e.g. Sol Gabetta and Mitsuko Uchida.

This year, the competition will be having divisions for oboe, wind quintet, voice, and cello. We'll be attending part of the first rounds for the cellists at the Hochschule der Musik. You'll get to listen to future stars in the classical music world up close and personal.
