Details

This is a technically relatively easy winter hike from Geitau to Hochmiesing, but it has more than 1000m ascent and will take more than 7 hours.
The hike starts in Geitau along some roads through a valley to the Soinsee. Then we leave the roads for the ascent to the Hochmiesing. After we made the first summit, we head to the Taubensteinhaus, were we can have a short break for some drink or a snack before we head down to the Spitzingsee, where we will catch the bus.

Facts

  • Distance: ~16.1 km
  • Ascent: ~1,267 m
  • Descent: ~618 m
  • Highest Point: 1,882 m
  • Walking time: ~7h
  • Costs: Bayern-Ticket (27-12€), perhaps we need an additional bus ticket from Spitzingsee to Fischausen.

This tour is planned for January 7th. The mountains will be covered with snow. The tour can be cancelled due to weather. The execution depends on the weather and the forecast of the Lawinenwarndienst Bayern.

Alternatives / Options

  • Depending on the participants, we can pass the Taubensteinhaus, get something to drink or also have a meal.
  • If everybody has snowshoes or at least gaiters, we don't need to stick to paths.
  • If we are too late at the Spitzingsee (past 18:00 so that we missed the last bus) or pretty early (and you want to burn more energy), we extend the hike and walk to Neuhaus at the Schliersee (~5,6 km).

Timing
This is just a plan, times can vary depending on the circumstances.

  • 07:15 Meet at München Hbf Gl.27-36 (please take into account public transport could be late)
  • 07:20 Buy the ticket(s) (everybody who is not on time will have to take care of the ticket by themselves)
  • 07:30 Leave Munich with the BRB RB55 (77355)
  • 08:49 Arrive in Geitau
  • 13:00 Arrive at Hochmiesing
  • 14:30 Arrive at Taubensteinhaus
  • 16:30 Arrive at Spitzingsee
  • 18:00 Arrive in Munich

Gear
This is a winter hike. You should have good shoes. As we don't only go along routes you should have gaiters/spats. Ideally you have Grödl with you, optionally even Snowshoes. If you have a Po-Rutscher, bring it.
Also bring enough to drink and eat to keep your energy.
