Hallertau Hop Harvest Spectacular V

Details

The annual hop harvest has started, so this week we're heading back to the Hallertau, the world's largest hop-growing area. This is an attractive, rural route with two great stops, but the lack of any drop-out options means both you and your bike need to be in good working order.

We start by taking the 9:04 RB to Rohrbach (RE 1, platform 24, direction Nürnberg, 34 minutes). We'll meet in front of the the platform at 8:45. The ride starts by heading out of the Ilm valley and into the Hallertau, soon passing the first hop fields. Our early lunch comes after 15 km at the beer garden of Brauerei Rockermeier. From there we head up and down to the Abens valley and end up at Schloßbräukeller Au-Hallertau. Then it's gently up then gently down to the end of the ride in Freising, from where there are trains back to Munich or the S-Bahn.

Total cycling distance is 65 km. There are some stretches along gravel tracks, but the majority of the route is along quiet country roads. The Hallertau being the Hallertau means there are some hills; 516 m of climbing in total, although most of this is very gentle.

Since many people have a Deutschland Ticket, I won't be organizing a group ticket, but please buy your own *BAYERN* bike ticket (€7.00) **BEFORE** arriving at the meeting point from any DB ticket machine, online, or with the DB Navigator app.
