Because there are numbers of interesting art shows and cultural events in the Greater Tokyo Area.

We will check out all types of cultural events. The main focus of the meet up group will be checking out art exhibitions, but we are not art snobs. We will check out anything as long as they are entertaining to us.

Anyone who likes to explore art + culture in the Greater Tokyo Area should join.

For this meetup, we will check out an exhibition that showcases selected drawing from the collection of the Nationalmuseum, Stockholm
"The Nationalmuseum was established in Stockholm, Sweden in 1792, and is thus one of the world's oldest art museums. Housing a broad-ranging collection that includes fine arts, decorative arts and design works, from the Medieval period through the present-day, the museum is particularly renowned for its quantitatively and qualitatively superb drawing collection. This exhibition features a selection of approximately 80 works from that collection, ranging in date from the Renaissance to the Baroque periods, and presented by region in four sections, Italy, France, Germany and The Netherlands." For this meetup, we will check out an exhibition that showcases unique works from Japanese traditional art.
"Have you ever, when looking at a work of art, felt, 'What the?,' 'Wow!' or 'Yikes!' Those emotional responses, reactions to unsettling experiences we cannot put into words, can be critical stimuli for looking more closely at a work. This exhibition is the second of our Unsettling Japanese Art exhibitions. The first was in 2021. Through thrilling, perplexing works and display techniques, your eyes, mind, and emotions are freed, and your intense interest, your feeling that 'I really want to look at that work!' aroused.
In this exhibition, we are focusing on six themes: 'Jam Packed!,' 'Folding Freely,' 'Lub, Dub, Love,' 'Flip, Flap, Turn,' 'Prick, Stab, Pierce,' and 'Pick up! Gather!' Using not yet widely known works from the Suntory Museum of Art collection, its aim is to inspire you to consciously enjoy the act of looking at a work and freely savoring the essence of Japanese art.
Lend an ear to the stirring of your heart, aroused by encountering a certain work of art, and you may make unexpected discoveries that will deepen your understanding of the fascination of Japanese art." [from Suntory Museum of Art website]Location
