Edelman Fossil Park & Museum

If you've ever had a hankering to dig into the soil and pull up the fossilized remains of a creature that walked (or swam) the earth 66 MILLION YEARS AGO, this is the meetup for you!

We'll visit the Edelman Fossil Park & Museum of Rowan University.

Dig into the past at the Edelman Fossil Park & Museum’s Quarry in Mantua, NJ, where you can unearth real fossils from 66 million years ago! Located at the former Inversand marl quarry, this unique site has yielded over 100,000 fossils, including sea creatures like mosasaurs, sea turtles, and marine crocodiles, shark teeth, and more. Guests are invited to dig and explore, discovering remnants of the catastrophic asteroid impact that wiped out the dinosaurs and shaped our planet’s history. With hands-on excavation, you'll have the chance to keep up to three fossils from your dig, while paleontologists continue their groundbreaking research on-site.

Our meetup event will include both the museum (at 1PM) and the quarry fossil dig (at 3:15PM).

For the quarry dig: The experience lasts 75 minutes total, with approximately 45 of those minutes digging in the quarry! You'll need comfortable clothing and sturdy, closed-toed footwear - rubber boots are highly recommended for muddy or wet conditions. To help us keep the area safe and organized, everyone going down into the quarry must have a ticket. Museum staff have assured me that you will get dirty and muddy, so appropriate clothing is a must and change of clothing is a good idea.

Tickets are $40 and we are receiving the group rate. DO NOT BUY TICKETS - SINCE WE MADE A GROUP RESERVATION, I WILL PAY THE FEE AND YOU WILL REIMBURSE ME THE DAY OF THE MEETUP.

Since this particular meetup is more complicated than our usual, there are some additional ground rules for this event:

• Please be on-time. We are being admitted as a group.
• No split tickets - our group will be doing both the museum and the dig at our assigned times.
• Please be prepared to reimburse me at the meetup. Cash, check, venmo, and paypal are all fine. Details will be provided for those who need them at the museum.
• We can't have any no-shows for this one. If your plans change, you MUST change your RSVP as soon as possible.
