Road Ride From Old Ecity (double loop)
Details
The weather has crushed all hope of trail riding, so we will be going road style. As we are a MTB group, we suck as road riders. Don't expect proper road etiquette, hardly any peloton or drafting, anyone pointing out pot holes, etc., but do expect a bunch of people on anything from gravel to road bikes showing up having a good time, and maybe even bunny hopping those pot holes. As it's usually the faster paced ride guys that come out we do maintain a moving average for around 15 mph, but we do stop at most intersections also. MTBs, no matter how strong you are will have trouble keeping up unless they have a motor.
Waiver: Biking is a risky sport, By signing up for this meetup you are agreeing to our MVD Mountain Bikers waiver located here: Link to MVD Waiver
Where/Directions: Lot D in Old Ellicott City. Look for us at the back of the lot near the dumpsters.
What time: Meet between 9:30 and 9:40 at parking lot. Wheels rolling by by 9:45. We will not wait past 9:45.
Pace: We are not real roadies, but can maintain a decent pace. Just don't expect any great pace line. This route has some solid hills in it, but we will still be around 15 mph moving pace.
Terrain: With snow still around and possible on bike paths we will be on all roads for this one. Some a little busier than others, but most being low car volume.
What to expect? Here's a youtube of one of these rides: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C0_GGRo20NM
Distance: This will be a decent day of around 48 miles and around 3,000' of climbing. We will do a loop and be back to the cars about 20 miles in before heading out for the final loop. the final loop has an option to stop for a beer at manor hill farm if we incline. Do expect elevation, as we go up and down the hills / roads around the Patapsco valley. To avoid some bike paths because of snow still, we will be on some heavier volume than I usually am, but overall nothing too crazy.
Duration: With stops we will be about a total of 4 hours, or a bit more if we stop for mid ride beers. The first loop will be about 1.5 to 2 hours.
Bring: Helmet (required), water (as much as you can carry), spare tube/patch kit, pump/CO2, multi-tool, I.D., emergency contact info where it can be easily located on your person, and a good attitude, as this ride is as much about camaraderie as it is about riding. Bring lights (both front and rear) as we are riding on roads and will be unsafe withou them.
Weather: Shine Only
