A Peek Inside the World of Writing Nonfiction with Amy L. Bernstein

Writing nonfiction is, like fiction, all about great storytelling, sharing a compelling point of view, and understanding your reader. But there are critical differences too, and that’s what we’ll explore together. I’ll give you an insider’s view of what it takes to develop a stellar nonfiction book and a marketable book proposal. We’ll touch on the differences between creative nonfiction and memoir, as well as balancing research and writing. This will be an informal presentation with lots of time for open-ended Q&A.

Amy L. Bernstein is an Author Accelerator certified nonfiction book coach helping aspiring and established authors to develop sellable nonfiction books in a variety of fields. Her forthcoming nonfiction book is Wrangling the Doubt Monster: Fighting Fears, Finding Inspiration (Bancroft Press, January 2025). She is also a published fiction author, essayist, and poet, and writes a weekly Substack column, Doubt Monster. Amy is a proud member of the MWA South Baltimore Chapter. She lives and works downtown, overlooking the Inner Harbor. Learn more about her book coaching business, Wordfirst, on her book coaching website.

This meeting will be in-person only. Please join us in the Hemingway Room at Baltimore's Little Havana restaurant. Ordering drinks or dinner encouraged but by no means required. Transit accessible via the Charm City Circulator's Banner Route or Cherry Route, or MTA Local Link 71 or 94.
