Salmon river trail : short option

Get to know this 7.6-mile out-and-back trail near Rhododendron, Oregon. Generally considered a moderately challenging route, it takes an average of 3 h 57 min to complete. This is a very popular area for backpacking, camping, and fishing, so you'll likely encounter other people while exploring. The best times to visit this trail are April through October. Dogs are welcome and may be off-leash in some area

Best part of the trail is the first 2 - 2 1/4 miles. Optimum turnaround for a breathtaking, magical hike is at the permit station, or the first big wooden bridge past that. Beyond that point is a loooong steady climb with nice vistas but no "payoff" point. Great workout, I guess. Would also recommend going in the AM, as the light is much softer and nicer. Highly recommend this hike!
