Join My Green Earth , in partnership with the Cobb County Office of Sustainability and the Austell Community Task Force , for a hands-on community event focused on building healthy soil, thriving gardens, and a more resilient local food system.
During the event, My Green Earth will guide volunteers through hands-on stewardship of the community’s mini food forest . We’ll focus on maintaining and preparing the space for a plentiful harvest: caring for plum trees, blueberry bushes, serviceberries and more . Participants will learn skills such as pruning fruit trees, supporting plant health, and seasonal garden care , all while gaining a deeper understanding of how food forests function as sustainable ecosystems.
In addition, Cobb County’s Office of Sustainability will lead a Composting Workshop , teaching participants how to turn food scraps and yard waste into nutrient-rich compost . Attendees will learn composting basics, best practices for home systems, and how compost supports healthier plants and reduces waste sent to landfills.
No Experience Needed: Bring your enthusiasm and a willingness to get your hands dirty! Children are welcome but must be accompanied by an adult. There is a playground connected to the property for younger children to enjoy. Whether you're an experienced gardener or a first-time planter, this is a fantastic opportunity to learn, connect, and make a lasting impact on the community.
What to Bring:
We will provide all tools and gardening gloves. Bring your own gloves if you have any. This event is outdoors, so:
Bring bug spray and sunscreen
Bring refillable water bottles
Wear closed-toed shoes
Wear pants/long sleeves to minimize bug/poison ivy exposure
Your hands can make a difference, and together, we'll cultivate a greener, more vibrant Austell! We can't wait to see you there! 🌳🌿
