Description

We will all meet on the side of Lizzie's Trail Inn . Since we are parking at a residential area , please be mindful of the neighbors peaceful quietness. There is a restroom in the park/picnic area. There are no restrooms on the trail but "Be sure to know before you go." From there we will hike 3.5 miles to Orchard Camp. Most of the trail is single line and well maintained . This trail is very scenic. There are some drop offs. Please pay close attention to your stepping. When we reach the camp we will take a brake and snack. We will return the way we came. For an added BONUS on this hike, those of you who would like to stick around for the museum to open at 10 am are welcome to join me for a tour and more exciting history. The museum is open Saturday's from 10 am to noon . • PLEASE NOTE : This trail will determine if you are challenged and or ready for the following weeks trail to Manzanita Ridge and then to the Mount Wilson Summit. WOOOOOHOOOO!!!!!!!

• Distance: 7 miles - Elevation gain: 2100 feet - Hiking Level 6-7 Intermediate

• Steepness , distance, Group pace , preferably 2.5 , 3 1/2 - 4 1/2 hours.

History

Orchard Camp is the first half of the trail to Mount Wilson. Originally a 3 room building . Though it no longer exists , a wall and stone steps still remain. Built by Benjamin Davis Wilson. Eventually he expanded the trail with the help of Mexican and Chinese laborers and reverted to a popular tourist attraction for hikers. Hikers would set signal fires at the summit of Mount Wilson to let others know they arrived safely.

Directions

From the 210 freeway you will exit Baldwin Ave and head north. After 1.5 miles you will turn right onto Mira Monte Ave. Drive to the intersection of Mira Monte Dr and Mt. Wilson Trail Dr. Park anywhere in this area.

What To Bring

Water – Snacks – Camera – Sunscreen – Insect Spray - good trail shoes or hiking boots - layer

While hiking, please respect the land and the other people out there, and try to Leave No Trace of your passage.

The organizers (me) (us) of this trip is a volunteer and is not a professional guide. The function of the organizer is only to organize this trip. Each person who signs up for a trip/hike/or outing is responsible for his or her own safety and the safety of his or her guests.

By signing up for this trip, or any other event organized by me, you are acknowledging that you are aware and have made your guests aware of the risks, dangers and hazards associated with any outdoor activity and freely accept and fully assume all such risks, dangers and hazards, and further agree to release and discharge the organizer (me) of this hike from and against any and all liability arising from your and your guest's participation in the group activities.

With that said , our MISSION on this hike is no one is left behind, We all get back safe with no injuries . Hiking is recreational and we are there to have fun in a safe and healthy manner and healthy environment enjoying each other's company.
