Details

Co-Leaders: Patty and Tracy

50 Shades of Red: If you love it go for the red and if you hate it, go for a lighter shade of red or go dark.....THERE IS A CONTEST FOR THE BEST/MOST COLORFUL OUTFIT FOR THIS HIKE!!!

Location: Eaton Saddle, Angeles National Forest

Distance: 9.5 miles

Elevation Gain: 4000'

Hike difficulty: Advanced

Level: 8/10

Time: 7 hours

Description: This hike will take us to 5 peaks of San Gabriel Mountain front range:

San Gabriel Peak (6161')

Mt. Disappointment (5963')

Mt. Deception (5796')

Mt. Markham (5742')

Mt. Lowe (5604')

We are not professionals; this is a fun hike, not serious, ALTHOUGH you need to be able to master a difficult hike. HIKE AT YOUR OWN RISK. We will meet at 6:30 a.m. at the Eaton Saddle trailhead (https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msid=203502884407411417167.0004dc0f8f103df51dcc9&msa=0), at an elevation of 5,120 feet. The trail is a fire road going through the Mueller tunnel and leading to San Gabriel Peak, which will be the first peak of the five peaks; it has the second most difficult approach. At the 1/2 mile mark, we will reach the water tank. To the left, the trail heads to Mt. Lowe. We will go to the right; San Gabriel Peak. There are lots of switchbacks, lots of elevation gain in a short amount of time. The second peak will be Mt. Disappointment, which is a road leading to it's cement summit. The third peak is Mt. Deception lots of the poodle dog bush, a bit steep and having to scramble in parts and so on until we get to Mt. Lowe. At this point we will head back on the Mt WIlson Trail for 2 miles to our cars.
