Mt. Baldy via Manker Flats down Devils Backbone Loop

Description: The beginning of our hike will be following the service road toward the San Antonio Fall. At the first switchback, we will have a great view of the San Antonio Fall. We will continue on the service road for about another .3 miles, before proceeding upward on Baldy Bowl/Ski Hut trail to Sierra Sky Hut (8200 ft). We will take a quick break at the Sierra Ski Hut to regroup before continue upward on the Baldy Bowl to a ridge South of the Summit. From there it will be a push for another 1 miles to reach the summit. Once at the summit, we will break for lunch/snack while enjoying the panoramic view from the highest point of the San Gabriel Mountains. After our well rest at the summit, we will descend eastward down the Devils Backbone Trail cross a daunting ridge to the Mt Baldy Notch. From the Baldy Notch, we will continue down the service road to the trailhead. For those who want to take a faster road, they can either take the ski lift down. Distance: 11.3+ miles loop

Elevation gain: 3900 ft.

Duration: 6-7 hrs.

Difficultly: 8/10

Recommendation: At least 3 liters of water/electrolyte, snack/lunch

Caution: This is an ADVANCED hike. Some section of the trail is very steep, narrow, and slippery; especially at the Devils Backbone trail. Be HONEST to yourself. Only RSVP if you are serious.

Direction: From 210 Freeway, exit Baseline Road. Head west on Baseline. Turn right on Pandua Road and drive 2 miles to Mt Badly Road. Continue on Badly Road until you reach the village. Continue up Mount Baldy Road for 7 miles to Mount Baldy Village (where there is a visitor center) and drive another 4 miles up the road to the Manker Flat campground. Parking along the road.
