Please arrive early as we leave on time! NO 10 MINUTE GRACE PERIOD :)
Stats:
~ 10 miles RT
~ 1800 Elevation gain
~ Advanced beginners and Level 6 Intermediates for the Deer Park portion.
~ Duration: 4 - 5 Hours
First, we will swing by Monrovia Falls via the Waterfall Trail to check out the water and take a 10 minute break. Next, we will continue on to Deer Park, taking the scenic and shaded Ben Overturff Trail, take a 15-20 minute break at the "park" and return the same way. Winter is the best time to hike this trail as there are no gnats or mosquitos.
The entire hiking route is a combination of asphalt, fire road, and trail.
Parking Situation: Parking is in a residential neighborhood and fills up FAST on weekends. Starting early will, hopefully, allow us to NOT have to park our cars blocks away from the meetup spot. Please allow yourselves plenty of time to find parking and time to walk UP the street to the junction of Ridgeside and Canyon. I recommend arriving at 6:40am.
Directions: From the 210 - Exit Santa Anita and head North, turn right at Foothill Blvd, turn left at Canyon Blvd and proceed North following the curve of the road. Park on Canyon Blvd.
Bring: Couple layers, gloves, water, trail snacks, sunscreen, poles, etc.
