This is an outing for advance strong uphill hikers. From the trailhead to the saddle where Waterman and Twin Peaks split off is well maintained. However, from this point to the top of Twin Peaks is straight up, at a VERY STEEP incline. Loose gravel and sketchy footholds makes having good shoes with LOTS of traction a MUST. Poles will definitely be a lifesaver if you have them. Because of the steepness, coming down is torturous on the knees. Bring knee braces if you have them.
Directions to the trailhead:
From the 210, exit Angeles Crest Hwy 2 and drive 34 miles until you have reached the 58.02 mile marker. Park in the Buckhorn Picnic Area on the left side of the road.
Bring:
Electrolytes, at least 3L of water, pain killers, poles, sunscreen, hat, etc.
