Egret Nesting/Visit Rookery at Wacatee Zoo

Details

As a group, last year we didn't go until April and they had been in full swing for a few weeks. I am thinking things may even be sooner given the cool temperature. We will return a few times as I like to go back when there are hatchlings/nestlings.

This Rookery exists along Socastee Creek which is a tributary of the Waccamaw river. It has been there for ages long before the zoo. Along with the Egrets you will see several other Wading Birds making their nests as well. Additionally last year we saw an Osprey and Prothonotary warblers

The doors open at 7:30 am. Cost paid to the zoo is $11.00 just to head back to the hatchery. This cost is not to see the zoo. The zoo attendants can give you directions back to the hatchery/bridge where we will be (along with others not part of the group that come to see this spectacle). We will head back to the rookery so if you are running late just head back there.
