AI in the financial inclusion space in Africa

Details
We are all admittedly eager to receive the very latest developments in the machine learning space, but how often do we see these approaches applied beyond academic datasets, toward real-world needs?
Not enough, says Matt Grasser, who joins us for a special Tuesday night "fireside chat" to present the case for AI in the financial inclusion space. He will discuss what he defines as AI, how it is currently being applied in practical ways for positive social impact, and how the momentum for the future of AI applications in this space is beginning to pick up steam in powerful ways. We'll then have time for some Q&A and conversation around some of the relevant initiatives we've encountered in this space.
Matt is the Director of Inclusive Fintech at BFA, a consultancy focused improving livelihoods of low-income individuals and their communities. He recently coauthored a paper on reducing the hype of AI in favor of pragmatic solutions entitled, "Artificial Intelligence: Practical Superpowers. The case for AI in financial services in Africa." Beyond machine learning, he and his team focus more generally on adapting a wide variety of cutting-edge techniques to meet the needs of the individuals they serve: lean product design, prototyping and piloting, quantitative analysis, and more. As a NYC-based entrepreneur, Matt is always excited to listen to challenges others are facing, and tailor the broader tech ecosystem to reduce pains and increase gains in their daily lives – so please don't be shy in reaching out with your ideas!
