About us
Hello and welcome to our amateur writing group!
If you're curious how writing can help in your everyday life, or if you love everything connected to words, and if you would like to try easy but powerful journaling methods in a friendly set-up and with a glass of vermouth (we're in Barcelona, after all!) – this is your group!
My name is Marusha, I'm a writer, book writing coach, journaling mentor, creator of the Naked Words writing program and founder of Barcelona Journaling Festival. I preach the superpower of feel-good writing to everyone. I use journaling for self-therapy and as dynamic meditation. It also works great to boost your creativity and overcome writer's block if you feel stuck or drained.
Feel free to follow my Instagram account for tips and inspiration!
My workshops are an eclectic mix of simple but efficient techniques such as guided journaling, expressive writing, narrative therapy, and personal storytelling. When we meet, I explain how different techniques work and then we scribble away our thoughts, feelings, and observations.
The group's language is English but you can write in your mother tongue, it's not an issue! Whatever makes you feel good and at ease.
Don't worry, you won't need to read to the group what you wrote (unless you really want to). This is not a fiction writing workshop, it's about your deep inner work and opening up by writing it down.
Why journaling is an excellent self-help method:
- Get to know your real feelings through simple but effective journaling tips
- Structure your thoughts, get honest with yourself and give your life a good seasonal clean-up!
- Write about important events of your life even if you're not a writer
- Get rid of writer's block and enjoy writing in a safe, supportive group of fellow amateur writers!
Everyone's welcome!

ABOUT THE ORGANIZER:
Hey there. I’m Marusha, founder of Girls Who Write. And yes, I’m that kind of girl myself, too!
Words have been my job all my life, but also my true passion. For years I’ve been working as a lifestyle & travel editor for Harper’s Bazaar, Grazia, and Aeroflot magazines, then switched to teaching storytelling and non-fiction writing. In 2022 I published my first book Not Just A Mom, my own manifesto and dedication to all creative women out there, who have mastered the art of juggling since becoming parents. After that, I realized how empowering a female community can be and how much we girls need our own tribe. This is when the idea of GWW was born.
I have also combined the wanderlust running through my veins, my experience as a travel editor, and my passion for writing to launch GIRLS WHO WRITE retreats. If you’re a words-lover like me, these transformational, creativity-boosting adventures are what you’ve been looking for!
I created the Girls Who Write community to support and include in the creative circle all the women who love words. It doesn’t matter if you’re an amateur novelist, seasoned journalist, screenplay writer, journaling fan, or a pure beginner in writing. Come join us – and never write alone again!

[St.Valentine's Special] Unbreak my heart 💔 Kintsugi & Journaling
Fontana Metro station, Carrer gran de gracia / Carrer de les Carolines (oposite site of Fontana Metro station), Barcelona, ESWhat if the cracks in our hearts weren’t something to hide — but something to honor?
Welcome to this St.Valentine's Special half-day creative retreat – Unbreak my heart 💔 where the ancient Japanese art of Kintsugi meets the reflective power of journaling. Come solo to reflect on your heart stories, come as a couple to give depth to your relationship (and let go of everything that burdens you), or join me in recovering from a recent heartbreak.
Kintsugi — the practice of mending broken pottery with gold — teaches us that scars can be beautiful and a carefully restored piece is much more valuable and admired than a whole one. That stories that have reshaped us can be more meaningful than perfection. That we can hold and honor our past, not erase it.
In this special gathering, we’ll gently explore how to:
💔 Mend* broken ceramics while using this meditative process as a channel to deep self-reflection
🖋️ Use guided journaling to uncover the gold in your own healing journey
✨ Celebrate the wisdom in your wounds, and reframe brokenness as transformation*The traditional kintsugi method takes up to 4 months with long breaks between sessions to let the natural glue air-dry (it's also quite pricey). We will use the method called modern kitsungi, which uses different kinds of materials and can be completed in only 3 hours
You’ll take home:
- Your own golden-repaired pottery piece
- A feeling of emotional release
- A small collection of written reflections and prompts to continue exploring
- A warm sense of community, connection, and quiet strength
No writing or art experience needed — just bring your heart and your hands. We will be guided by amazing Yuko-san, a Japanese arts and crafts master and Kintsugi artist. Marusha will take care of the journaling part.
Let’s create something beautifully whole… together.
📍 Location: Petite Japó studio in Gracia (a little bubble of tranquility with adorable true-Japanese ambience)
🗓 Timeline: kintsugi part will take 3 hours, followed by a 1-hour reflective journaling session with tea and homemade Japanese snacks 🍡 served in between. After we finish, those who don't have a romantic plan for the night are welcome to join Marusha for a copa de vermut in Gracia :) First round is on me!
*Bonus: all participants will receive the signature Girls Who Write tote bag (there will be something special for guys as well, don't worry!:)
🎟️ Only 5 spots available

Start Your Own Journaling Circle in 2026!
·OnlineOnlineYou already know the transformative power of journaling, and now feeling ready to help others? Perfect! But how....?
You don't have to figure everything out on your own! Let me give you detailed guidance based on my extensive experience – and let's spread the love for the writing that touches hearts together!About your teacher: Marusha is the founder of the International Barcelona Journaling Festival and Naked Words: Barcelona Journaling Circle and the International Journaling Community (non-profit organization). She has been running various journaling workshops for 6 years, including 2 years of the festival that attracts journalers from all over the world. In other words, your host knows a thing or two about writing groups and how to cook them :)
Let's meet online and create an action plan that is perfect for YOU and the people you have in mind. This practical and inspiring session is for anyone curious about starting their own journaling circle in 2026 — in person or online — without overwhelm, pressure, or performative “facilitation.”
This workshop is for you if you:
- Love journaling and want to share it with others
- Feel drawn to community, reflection, and holding space
- Are curious about facilitating but don’t know where to start (it's overwhelming, I get it!)
What we’ll cover:
- What makes a journaling circle work
- Simple formats you can start with
- How to hold space safely and sustainably
- Common fears (and how to move through them)
- A short guided journaling practice to get you going
- An action plan, tailor-made for you – so you can start as soon as you're ready!
- Group work – share your idea, the audience you're thinking to cater to, and get guidance on what would work best!
I'm happy to share everything I've learned about hosting writing groups – just because I believe that we need to get more people into healing writing. Let me help you, so you can help others.
We'll meet on Zoom (you'll get the link closer to the event). There will be a recording, but try to be there in person so we can discuss the idea you have on your mind.
