The Notch from Moorecroft Park


Details
Approx 14km/470m accumulated elevation gain @ "a notch over" moderate pace. You should be a strong "B/moderate" level or higher hiker to enjoy this longer hike.
Not suitable for anyone with balance/knee/mobility/cardio deficiencies.
Short snack break @ lower summit/swing.
Pet-free hike/NO DOGS please. Pit toilet near parking lot.

Walk down to Vesper Point and gaze out at the splendour of the Salish Sea and snow-capped Coastal Mountains before heading off to Enos Lake. NOTE: about 6-7 minutes walking along Stewart Rd before heading back into forested trails heading to Powder Point Rd. More road walking for short distance before starting the rocky & rooty climb UP the Lower Notch trail to viewpoint that looks back over to the Salish Sea. Final ascent is UP a short, steep rugged trail to Upper Summit with views over Nanoose Harbour. Descend down rocky trail to lower summit/swing for another great view. Continue on trail heading down, some more road walking before entering forested trails, along Enos Lake and then back to Moorecroft Park.
Expect puddles/wet/slippery conditions with varied and unstable terrain (stones, roots & some blowdown). Hiking boots/shoes with good tread required. Poles may be beneficial for this one!
