Discovery/Rediscovery Hike: Cougar Bluff and 1/2 Benson loop
Details
Please read full description so there aren't any surprises...a Double D adventure! Due to harvesting in area, some of the trails I'm familiar with no longer seem to exist, so will be hiking some new to me trails, (update: hiked some today) and Dave is familiar with them.
Approx 9km/500m accumulated elevation gain.
You s/b @ minimum a strong “B/moderate” level hiker or higher to enjoy this hike. Not suitable for anyone with balance/cardio/knee deficiencies (very steep up, then very steep down).
Pet-free/NO DOGS please. Pit Toilet @ parking lot.
REMINDER: be prepared to show some of the Ten Essentials/First Aid supplies that you carry in your pack.
From Mt Benson Regional Parking lot, hike Outer Bypass to new hiker ready trail, some STEEP & SPICY mountain bike trails and up STEEP rocky access road. Should be lots of waterfalls along the way. Hoping for some nice views along the way and from Cougar Bluff. We'll join Gail's Trail to the 1/2 way point of main Mount Benson trail, descend to viewpoint just below 1/2 mark and then continue down to parking lot.
Expect puddles, small stream crossings, wet and slippery conditions with varied and unstable terrain (stones, roots & some blowdown). Hiking boots or shoes with good tread required. Poles may be beneficial for this one!
