Urban Hike: Westwood Lake/ Morell Sanctuary #1

Details

This hike is fairly easy to perhaps a light moderate hike for those who are beyond the beginner stage in their hiking endeavors and want to make the next step. We will begin from the main parking lot at Westwood Lake (at the picnic table near the washroom) and head southward for just over a kilometer till we reach the connector trail to Morell Sanctuary. We will follow the Alder and Fire Road trails returning to the parking lot from where we began. A little climbing and some rocky spots but for the most part the trail is a good walk, but I would recommend wearing good footwear. This hike will be about 2 hours or there abouts long and about 6-8 km in distance with minimal elevation gain.

No dogs I'm afraid.

Westwood Lake is an easily accessible area; if you don't have a car, cycling to the lake is an option, or you can take the #5 Fairview bus which will drop you off just below the Westwood Lake parking lot on Arbot Rd, just check out Nanaimo Regional Transit for more details.
