Please read full description...
The Roost viewpoint overlooks Nanaimo, Nanaimo Harbour & beyond with Mount Benson as a backdrop.
Approx 10.5km/425m accumulated elevation, mainly @ "a notch above" moderate pace, but pace will be adjusted for inclines/scrambles etc.
You s/b @ minimum a strong “B/moderate” level hiker or higher to enjoy this hike.
Not suitable for anyone with balance/cardio/knee deficiencies.
Short snack break @ viewpoint/Roberts Roost.
Pet-free/NO DOGS please. Pit toilet near parking lot.

TIP: it's time to switch your backpack contents to warm weather hiking....extra water, bug repellent, AfterBite, sunscreen, sun hat etc.
Be prepared to show some of the Ten Essentials/First Aid supplies that you carry in your pack.

Route planned: active mountain bike trails including 1 Black Diamond one with some scrambling thru a chute involved...bring gloves! Then approx 20 minutes access road walking (to avoid DND/Military Range), another short rock section scramble, up the Roost, down a "steep/spicy" eroded trail. Return via access road (approx 30 minute walk) merge onto some new trails, connect to Outer Bypass and back to parking lot.

Expect puddles, wet & muddy conditions with varied and unstable terrain (stones, roots & navigate over some blowdown). Hiking boots/shoes with good tread required. Poles would be beneficial.
