Cumberland Network Trails: 2 summits loop

Approx 14km/440m accumulated elevation gain @ "slightly above" moderate pace.
Estimating 4 hours. You s/b @ minimum a strong “B/moderate” level hiker or higher to enjoy this hike. Not suitable for anyone with balance/cardio/knee deficiencies.
Snack breaks @ viewpoint(s).
Washroom: Cumberland Village Park (corner of Dunsmuir & 6 St).
Carpooling: Pre-arrange beforehand. Passengers pitch in for gas $$$. Nanaimo suggested meeting spot: overflow parking lot adjacent to PetSmart in north Nanaimo at 6950 Island Hwy. Park in stalls close to highway as the other area needs to be kept clear for delivery trucks to turn around in.
A counter-clockwise loop on mountain bike trails/access roads with 2 modest summits. We'll wind our way up to Nikkei Mtn (360m), descend down and then up to Fuji Jim Mtn (247m). We'll be hiking on older/less popular multi-use trails, however, expect some bike traffic and trail runners.
NOTE: 1 steep Black Diamond downhill trail which we'll descend in stages.
REMINDER: be prepared to show some of the Ten Essentials/First aid supplies that you carry in your pack-back. See Ten Essentials link below.
Expect dry/slippery conditions with varied and unstable terrain (stones, roots & some blowdown). Hiking boots/shoes with good tread required. Poles may be beneficial.
