Résumé :

BrightSign is the only smart glove in the world that can translate any sign language to any spoken language, instantly! Even one that you’ve made up yourself. How does it work and what is the science behind it? In this talk I will take you through my PhD research journey designing a wearable computing system for custom hand gesture recognition using machine learning. This technology gained global awards, a number of patents and was eventually commercialised into a product on the market used in many schools today. I will conclude with a live demo.

Bio :

I have a dual degree in Design and Programming leading to an interdisciplinary PhD in Human Computer Interaction (HCI). I am a faculty member in 2 Universities, KAU in Saudi Arabia and UAL in London, UK. I have 2 start-ups based in London: “BrightSign" developing assistive technology solutions and “Fiddlie” for prototyping innovations. I am currently in Nantes for three months doing a post-doc fellowship at L’École De Design.
