Walk at Ātea a Rangi - Waitangi Regional Park

Details
Come and discover Ātea a Rangi - Star Compass - located at the Waitangi Regional Park near Awatoto.
This significant project was a three year long collaboration between the Ātea Trust and the Hawke's Bay Regional Council. The actual site of the Ātea a Rangi has a much longer history spanning back to the first discoverers of Aotearoa.
The main purpose for building the Ātea a Rangi was to ensure that the art of Whakatere waka (traditional navigation) is passed on to other generations.
As we walk we will discover the celestial star compass and how traditionally it was used to navigate with the stars.
There are several informative signs to help us learn about the history of this remarkable site.
Agenda
Drive just off the Main Road between Awatoto and Clive at the Waitangi Regional Park into a generous carpark.
We will meet at the magnificently carved entrance to the park and start our walk from there.
After walking around the Park we will explore the nearby wetlands and birdlife habitat.
We will have 45 minutes for the walk and return to the carpark and drive to Clive to the Box expresso Cafe for coffee and a treat ..at 168, Main Rd, Clive.
When you RSVP I will be in touch for any questions and will be on Event Chat on the day of the event.
