A Weekend Trip to Enjoy and Explore Sustainable Living

to Sunday, October 12, 2014, 12:00 PM
Narrow Ridge Earth Literacy Center,

1936 Liberty Hill Rd, Washburn , TN (map)

Hi everyone,

Let's unplug and spend a weekend immersed in nature and learning about sustainability at a weekend sustainability workshop.

There will be a guided tour to learn about sustainability. A moderate hike will be led by the founder of Narrow Ridge, Bill Nickle. The goal is for everyone to enjoy being in and learning about nature, so Bill is accommodating to less experienced hikers who may need rest stops along the way. If anyone is incapable of hiking, they are welcome to stay at the lodge during the hike and they will be given a driving tour. The lodge sleeps 18 and costs $150 the first night and $125 the second for the first 10 people, plus $10 per person for each additional guest. The cost would be split among those who participate. If more than 18 people are interested, we may be able to rent a second cabin that sleeps six. We would need to bring our own food, but there is a stove, refrigerator and oven available. We are inviting various outdoor groups from Bowling Green and Middle Tennessee to participate. Last year this trip was hosted by The Sierra Club and everyone had a great time.

About Narrow Ridge:

The Narrow Ridge Center is a nonprofit organization established to study, teach and demonstrate sustainability with solar powered rental facilities and homes that have been “off the grid” since 1991. Narrow Ridge is dedicated to providing experiential learning of Earth Literacy based on the cornerstones of spirituality, sustainability and community. We are located at 1936 Liberty Hill Road, on the “north side” of Grainger County, 5 miles from Washburn, TN and 15 miles east of US 25E. Beginning on 40 acres in the 1970s, the Center has grown to encompass and protect more than 500 acres of mountain land. Components include an Earth literacy resource center and library, eco-friendly meeting and lodging rental facilities, a recently initiated natural burial preserve, and three community land trusts. Academic and experiential programs include social ecology courses, Vision Fasts, sustainable living and natural immersion experiences, and alternative spring break opportunities. Our growing agricultural effort includes a demonstration garden and orchard that provide experiential learning opportunities and supply food for program guests. Ongoing community events at the Center include Music Jams, Film Nights, Equinox and Solstice Celebrations, community potlucks, Yoga classes, and our annual Hogskin History Day, which celebrates the beauty, history, culture and music of our area. If you are interested in volunteer and internship opportunities, or if you would like to schedule a visit, please call us at [masked].http://www.narrowridg...
