The good stuff:

Come hike the Appalachian Trail with me through the gorgeous Roan Mountain area. There are multiple balds with beautiful 360 degree views. It's regarded by many as the most beautiful section of the AT.

Friday, Oct 20: Travel to Mountain Harbour Hostel near Roan Mtn. We need to be there by 2:00 PM EDT/1:00 PM CDT to catch the shuttle. It’s about 5 hrs from Nashville. We will leave our car(s) there then take a shuttle from there to the trailhead. The shuttle is $40. That covers up to 4 people, then it’s $10/each additional person. I have reserved 10 spots on the shuttle. That afternoon we will hike 3-3.5 miles to camp. We have a couple of options there. One is on a bald just off the main trail with great views and the other is a shelter on the trail in the woods.

Saturday: we will hike 7-9 miles to the next campsite. Mileage depends on where we camp.

Sunday: we will get up and hike approx 3 miles (all downhill) to the hostel where our cars are, then travel home.

According to Gaia:

Total Mileage: 13.6

Total Elevation Gain: 2765

Total Elevation Loss: 5384

This will be a go at your own pace hike. Please come prepared with a map and a basic idea of the route. There is no fee for this trip, other than for the shuttle, which will need to be paid when we take the shutle.

Due to the distance, I recommend carpooling. If you want to stay the night Thursday night at Mountain Harbour (or anywhere else), you will be responsible for making those arrangements. We will meet at Mountain Harbour at 2:00 PM Eastern Time (1:00 Central) on Friday to catch our shuttle to the trailhead.
