Grandfather Mountain NC - 2 Nights - 8 Spots - VERY TECHNICAL

Details

This trip is short mileage but very technical!

To join, sign up to the wait list and text me or send me a message on meetup to be added to the trip. The trip is not full until we have 8 attendees.

Limited to 8 people.

I am thinking we will start hiking around 1 or 2pm EDT but I will confirm exact start time later.

IMPORTANT DETAILS:

  • This is a STRENUOUS hike.
  • Plan is subject to change slightly if my first choice campsite becomes available (more below).
  • This hike includes ladders and exposed cliffs.
  • Dogs are not allowed
  • Children are not recommended
  • Total hiking distance ~11 miles
  • This hike is a 5.5 hours drive from Nashville.
  • This trail is in the Eastern timezone. I will specify timezones as needed.
  • Cost: FREE. Feel free to contribute towards campsite fees if you feel inclined, but I do next expect anyone to do so.
  • Read the sign up instructions at the top.

Overview
If you're still reading, this hike is absolutely amazing - one of my favorites in the Southeast. This hike consists of wooden ladders, rocks and boulders, breathtaking views, a swinging bridge, and, most importantly, Dip'n Dots. This will be my 6th time hiking at Grandfather Mountain.

I currently have the same campsite reserved for 2 nights, but we may switch if the other group site becomes available.

The trail ends at a Grandfather Mountain visitor station which is a tourist destination. The visitor center has snacks, cold beverages (no alcohol), Dip'n Dots, bottle filling stations, bathrooms, and a swinging bridge. After we've spent some time snacking and enjoying the views, we'll hike back to our campsite. Assuming I don't switch up our campsite, we'll be rather close to an epic sunset spot from camp.

Start Time
TBD - but approx 1 or 2pm EASTERN (12 or 1 Central).

Parking
There is parking at the trailhead and there are no fees for parking. We will have competition with day hikers, especially if the Profile Trailhead remains closed. Carpooling is recommended.

Hiking Plans

Campsite Info

  • I am hoping another site becomes available. If so, we will shift to that site - affecting daily mileage, water availability, etc.
  • Proper food storage is required - Ursack, bear canister, food hang
  • There is water a short hike from camp (unless we change sites - I will communicate changes).
  • I have not personally camped at this site. There are 4 wooden platforms for tents and should be plenty of trees for hammocks.
  • Freestanding tents are preferred given the platforms.

PLEASE RSVP WITH INTEGRITY.

Again, to join, sign up to the wait list and text me or send me a message on meetup to be added to the trip. The trip is not full until we have 8 attendees.
