Christmas Eve Overnight at Hobbs Cabin
Details
For those who don't have Christmas Eve plans: let's hike to Hobb's Cabin!
This will be a "choose your own route" and "hike your own pace" trip.
There are several trails that will take you to Hobb's Cabin depending on your experience level and desired trail length.
1. Savage Gulf Ranger Station via North Rim to Hobb's: *approx 6.3 mi (easy/views/overlooks)
2. Savage Gulf Ranger Station via North Plateau to Hobb's: *approx 7.1 mi (easy/wooded)
3. Stone Door via Connector Trail to Hobb's: *approx 7 miles (difficult/experienced hikers only)
I will personally be hiking Option #2! Friendly dogs are welcome.
I have secured a reservation for Hobb's Cabin and there are a few tent sites in the vicinity.
A small seasonal spring is available behind the cabin but be prepared to carry extra water in case the spring is dry.
If you wish to carpool, reach out to me and I can help you coordinate with others. I will be coming from Chattanooga!
This hike will happen rain or shine! Pack your winter gear!
Please RSVP with integrity and send me a message with your contact info.
(Campsite fee: $5 per person)
You must have a map for this hike! If you are not in the habit of hiking with a map, use this as an opportunity to expand your skills. We do not want to be contacting park officials on Christmas Eve during winter conditions because someone is lost without navigation tools.
