Have you ever been outside at night, hiking, camping, backpacking, walking your dog, laying in a hammock in your backyard, and couldn't help but marvel at the beauty of the moon and stars? Have you ever thought "man, I'd really love to know what some of these stars or constellations are"? Astronomy is both the oldest science and a way that humans have connected to the larger universe since before written history. Everyone that looks up at night is an astronomer! Come join us as Theo Wellington takes on a little journey about exploring the night sky. We'll do a little bit of history looking at how the night sky has been both useful and inspirational, and how that continues today. We'll also cover how it is easy and fun to find your way around the night sky.

A child of the Space Age, a long time ago Theo Wellington got a BS degree in astronomy from Case Western Reserve University. Worked some varied and interesting jobs, raised four kids here in Nashville, and had an 11 year run working in the Sudekum Planetairum presenting shows. In 2017 she spent most of her time doing outreach for the 2017 solar eclipse, including outreach on behalf of Western Kentucky University to schools. A member of the Barnard-Seyfert Astronomical Society since 2004, sharing her enthusiasm about the night sky and astronomy at star parties, and serving as Board Member, Treasurer, and President. Theo is also a NASA/JPL Solar System Ambassador volunteer, available for free programs on space topics. She is also a member of the Dark Sky International organization, trying to organized a Tennessee chapter to help us to see at least some of the stars. Likes almost everything outdoors, camping, hiking, and gardening.
