Overview
If you're still reading, this hike is absolutely amazing - one of my favorites in the Southeast. This hike consists of wooden ladders, rocks and boulders, breathtaking views, a swinging bridge, and, most importantly, Dip'n Dots. This will be my 6th time hiking at Grandfather Mountain.

We will be camping in the same site both nights. We can leave our sleeping gear and slackpack the majority of the hike.

The trail ends at a Grandfather Mountain visitor station which is a tourist destination. The visitor center has snacks, cold beverages (no alcohol), Dip'n Dots, bottle filling stations, bathrooms, and a swinging bridge. After we've spent some time snacking and enjoying the views, we'll hike back to our campsite. If we're feeling up for epic sunset, we'll stop for sunset and dinner at Watauga View which will have us night hiking another 1.5-2 miles to camp. We will discuss and make more precise plans for Saturday as a group.

Start Time
Friday will be a travel day. It's a 5.5 hour drive from Nashville. We don't have far to hike, so we do not need to leave super early. Be at the trailhead at 3:30pm EDT/2:30pm CDT. NOTE TIME ZONE.

Parking
There is parking at the trailhead and there are no fees for parking. Carpooling is recommended.

Campsite Info

  • There are cables provided for hanging food. You do not need to hang your own bear line. They are very easy to use. Bring a sturdy bag (anything more durable than a grocery bag). Feel free to bring your own bear can or Ursack if you prefer. Proper food storage is required.
  • The site is suitable for both hammocks and tents.

PLEASE RSVP WITH INTEGRITY.

Send me a message with your cell phone number to confirm your spot. Your spot will be given to someone else on the waitlist if I do not hear from you.
